Wow. What a show. My first time seeing the band after enjoying their CD's for the past few years. The venue was a first too. Awesome weather, a large crowd, and a few things that didn't seem quite right. :-)
First the good stuff. Guster was awesome. The sound was excellent and their performance was great. Unlike other reviews I've read here, the fans were really into the set and were on their feet the entire time.
Now for the not so good stuff. John Mayer. Well, it's not that Mayer didn't sound good, it's just that he did a lot of "gooble-de-gook" talking and it really started to get on my nerves. I was also very surprised to see a VERY YOUNG crowd on hand, which I now know was due to Mayer. I've listened to Mayer for a few months now and enjoy his music and talent... he's a gifted musician and songwriter. However, I was expecting at least a 20-something type of crowd with plenty of beer flowing. That wasn't the case. Someone could have pitched a Lemonade stand in front of the stage and it would have fit quite nicely for the Mayer fans.
So, again, Guster was awesome. Good show. I can't wait to see them again here in Carolina. Hopefully they'll be headlining (this show was NOT a double headliner).
